How to Draw a Tulip
Drawing tulip flowers in various foreshortenings is a great practice exercise, especially if you like to draw blooming tulips or plan to paint tulip bouquets in the future. Today we’ll learn how to use this technique for painting tulips.
Materials to Drawing
For sketching, you’ll need: graphite pencils of various hardnesses, an eraser, and sketch paper. If you want to add more expressiveness and brightness, you’ll also need: red chalk or sepia graphite gel pencils.
Composition and Shape of Flowers
Different tulips should have different shapes: the bud is similar to an elongated flattened oval; the flower, which has begun to open, should be enclosed into the square with rounded edges.
Draw the Tulip Petals
After all of the flowers have been marked out, we can begin transforming the simple geometric shapes into lovely flowers by lightly tracing an oval in each of the previously outlined geometric shapes. This oval shows the height of the tulip petals and prevents us from making a mistake when locating them.
Painting the Tulip Leaves and Stems
Then draw the green leaves and thicken the stem, paying special attention to the location and manner in which the flower is attached, especially for the flower that is turned back; it is particularly lovely and deserves to be shown properly.
Art Lesson we Add the Details
Light strokes will assist us in emphasizing the shape and form of flowers; there are shadowed and darker areas in the depth of a flower; it is necessary to apply the strokes according to the shape you want to emphasize; do not overwork the strokes and shadows.
