How to draw eyes from the side – 10 steps

I mentioned in my last tutorial that I would make a detailed post on drawing eyes from the side, but I didn’t expect it to take more than two weeks! But hey, I did manage to get two tutorials out this month, so that’s not bad.

Step 3: Add iris and pupil outlines

To form the iris, draw a curved line connecting the top and bottom parts of the cornea.

Step 4: Draw the eyelids

Draw the upper and lower eyelids, as well as the eyebrows, eyebrows, and lips, on the remaining sides of the triangle to give them a more natural contour.

Step 5: Add a highlight/reflection

Create an outline of the eyeball with your HB mechanical pencil, keeping it clean and free of blemishes or imperfections for maximum effect.

Step 7: Draw spokes

Draw a wave-like pattern around the pupil of an iris with a 4B mechanical pencil. Shade the iris with a dirty blending stump, being careful not to smudge the pupil. Add small slits randomly in between some of the spokes for added depth.

Step 8: Shade

Shade the white area of the eyeball or iris with an HB pencil, then add some subtle veins with a sharp H pencil. Use a mechanical pencil to keep your drawing as sharp as possible when shading around the cornea. Click here to learn how to shade!

Step 9: Add the eyelashes

Draw the eyelashes starting from the root of each hair with your sharpened 6B pencil; for lashes close to the corner of the eye, lightly draw them in with an HB pencil.

How do you color anime eyes?

Fill in the inside of the eye with fill tools. Don’t worry about shades because this is just the base; instead, focus on making sure there are no gaps between the line art and the fill color. Use the eraser tool if the paint goes outside the line, and the pen tool if there are small gaps.
