Getting started making your own Custom Nike Air Force 1
To custom make your own, you’ll need a pair of Nike Air Force 1s and a few products. The first step is to clean your sneakers before applying any paint; I used Angelus Leather Preparer and Deglazer and a microfiber cloth for this project.
Paint your custom Nike Air Force 1
After you’ve cleaned and prepared your sneakers, you can start painting! I used an Angelus Paint brush set to apply the paint, and I made sure to paint in thin layers; it’s better to apply multiple thin layers than one thick layer.
Adding a design
I wanted to give the shoes a nice pattern and a little nineties vibe, so I painted the little triangles with South Beach Angelus paint and the little zig zags with Magenta Angelus paint, using two layers of paint to make them clearly visible.
The final touch
To protect my custom Nike Air Force 1s, I used the Angelus Acrylic Finisher no. 600. Of course, the shoes need laces! I decided to add some bright pink laces to this design to add to the nineties vibe.

Do Air Force 1 make your feet look big?
In my case, I discovered I was buying my Air Force 1s too big because, unlike most sneakers with a narrow toe, u201cUptownsu201d (as they’re known in Harlem) have a round toe and thus run big and wide u2014 depending on your foot. Several trusted retailers and sneaker blogs confirm the AF1 runs big.
