How to draw lace in 11 steps:
Even though lace is translucent, it shades the skin, so if you can’t find a good shade, mix a little black into your skintone and use it to color the clothes you want.
Step 2: Draw some Shadows
Draw some shadows to give your illustration more dimension, as if your model were not wearing any clothes. For more information on drawing skin shadows, check out our How to Draw Skin Shadows tutorial or this YouTube video.
Step 3: Draw the lace mesh
To get the best results, use a well-sharpened pencil.
Step 4: Draw Lace ornaments
Simply think of easy to repeat patterns and allow yourself to make some variations of them by following the diagonal direction of the mesh, leaving equal space between the ornaments, and repeating the pattern in the same way.
Step 5: Inking
If you don’t want your illustration to look boring, ink the tree ornaments with black ink and experiment with line widths.
Step 10: Complete the half-circles
Allow it to overshoot the circle’s borders by one centimetre or as much as possible.
Step 11: Final touches
You can use it as lace trim on the hemlines or make an entire collection out of lace fabric. Please only share and re-use this image for non-commercial purposes.
