Beginner Friendly Banner Tutorials + Free Printable
In this step-by-step photo tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw simple banners for your bullet journal, which you can use for dates, collection, and tracker headers, or just for decoration. There are now only 5 banners instead of 6, and all of the banners in the updated post are straight lines.
1). Basic Banner
Draw your words or phrases inside two horizontal lines, then draw your tail ends. In the photo, the tail is split, with an arrow shape pointing in, but you could reverse this shape to have arrows pointing out from the ends.
2). Single Fold Banner
When drawing banners, the fold or crease is the most important concept to grasp; once you know how to do it, you can make any banner you want. Start with a large rectangle and choose one side to fold and end with an underturned fold. Draw a diagonal line from the lower left corner of the lowest banner section to the lowest right corner.
3). Multiple Fold Banner
This banner may appear difficult, but if you followed the steps for Banner #2, it will be simple. Draw horizontal lines extending from the sides of your banner piece, and fill them in with a pattern or solid color fill to add contrast and dimension, just like before.
4. Wrapped Banner
Let’s move on to this wrapped banner now that we’ve worked on adding folds in Bannens #2 and #3. Draw your tail ends as you did in the previous banners above, then add your line pattern or solid color fill to give the banner some dimension.
5). Two-Face Horizontal Banner
This is the final banner in this short doodle tutorial; it will have a total of six folds. Create the ends of your banner using the same steps as the Multiple Fold Banner (#3). If you get stuck, go back to Banner #3 and try the folds again.
