How to Draw a Brick Wall

Brick Wall Pattern
Let’s start by looking at the basic structure of the brickwork that forms the wall. Below is a picture of a typical wall. Look at the brick wall pattern. This is what you’ll be drawing today. The wall is built by stacking identical bricks in rows on top of one another. Each row is staggered as it is stacked. And mortar holds the bricks in place.
How to Draw a Brick Wall – Easy
This is the simplest of the methods I’ll show you today, and it works great for backgrounds and filling in empty spaces in your artwork. I drew mine in a circle to save time. Begin by drawing a straight horizontal line. Continue drawing horizontal lines, evenly spaced apart, until your area is filled. If you want your lines to be more consistent, you can use a ruler.
How to Draw a Wall with Mortar
This method is a little more difficult, but it will look more advanced and detailed. I’ll be drawing with a mechanical pencil because most of my guidelines will be erased in the final drawing. Begin by drawing your wall using the same steps as the first example. Draw your individual bricks inside of those guidelines, leaving a small gap between each brick.
Brick Wall Drawing with Template
This is the most time-consuming of all the ways to draw a brick wall from this lesson, but it may be necessary if you want your bricks to be perfectly uniform. First, make your template out of cardstock or another thick type of paper. Cut your template out with a sharp knife on a cutting mat.
Brick Wall Drawing with Graffiti
Brick walls are a great background filler for graffiti drawings, and there are many amazing drawings that have been done, or could be done, using brick walls. Here’s a brick wall graffiti drawing I did for one of my students.
Draw circles on a piece of paper or in your sketchbook with a roll of tape, then draw a brick wall in each circle that is different from the others. How many walls can you come up with?
