How to Draw an Ant – Step by Step Guide
Ants are social insects that belong to the Formicidae family, which includes wasps and bees. They live in colonies or groups of millions of ants and have specific responsibilities within the colony, such as protecting the queen and gathering food.
Begin by drawing a diagonal oval shape on the left side of your paper to represent the ant’s head. Next, draw an intersecting horizontal and vertical line to represent the ant’s reference lines.
Step 2 — Outline of the Head and the Thorax
Draw an ant’s thorax, the part of its body that connects its head to its abdomen, keeping in mind that the thorax should be slightly smaller than the head, overlapping or directly connected to the head, as shown in the illustration.
Step 3 — Afterwards, Draw the Ant’s Abdomen
Draw a sideways irregular oval shape with a slightly tapered end right next to the thorax that we drew in the previous step; when completed, the ant’s abdomen should resemble an egg, with the abdomen being significantly larger than the head and thorax.
Step 4 — Next, Draw the Front Legs of the Ant
Because the ant is facing to the left, its left leg is only partially visible. Draw two parallel angled lines underneath the thorax, with a small sideways oval shape at the bottom.
Step 5 — Then, Draw the Hind Legs of the Ant
How do you create an ant whose legs are attached to the abdomen rather than the thorax?
Step 6 — Now, Complete the Ant’s Set of Legs
Draw another leg beneath the back part of the ant’s abdomen; the opposite leg is hidden by the huge abdomen, but don’t worry; we’ll show you how to do it later.
Step 7 — Next, Draw the Left Antenna of the Ant
On the left side of the ant’s head, draw two connected narrow line figures, keeping in mind that the bottom line figure should be standing upright and the top line figure should be sideways, forming an angle.
Step 8 — Now, Finalize the Antennae of the Ant
To make the two antennas stand out from the rest of the body, they should have a similar form and structure.
Step 9 — Draw the Features on the Face of the Ant
We’ll draw the ant’s facial features in this step, and this is where you can show off your artistic abilities, particularly your ability to mix and match colors. Ants are mostly red or black in color, but there are also green and metallic ant species.
