The Polygon staff tried to draw Sonic from memory
This weekend, the first Sonic film, Sonic the Hedgehog, was released in theaters; who do you think drew Sonic the best? (But please think about your statements first!)
u201cAt first, I imagined myself as the goof who spun Sonic, just a ball with some stink lines, but I committed to that spiky hair, and everything fell apart when he suddenly had a receding hairline, pants, and only one arm.u201d
Teeth. Teeth. Molars. Canines. Incisors. Teeth.u201d
u201cI used to be a teen on deviantArt with a Sonic the Hedgehog OC, which has given me the absolutely inhumane talent of drawing Sonic the Hedgehog, and most of his friends, from memory. It’s like a bar trick. My friends demand I do it when I meet new people. Every time I enter a tech store, I draw a Sonic on one of their tablets and leave.u201d
u201cI thought I had the eyes down, but when I got to his hand, things started to fall apart quickly, so I decided to make my Sonic an angry demon with no actual legs, just feet.u201d
u201cOver the course of my life, I’ve drawn thousands of sonics in an attempt to capture some of the dynamic energy of Archie Sonic Cover art, which was always much better than the actual art. I failed.u201d
u201cI wanted to seed the plant-bed with more entries because I was underestimating my nerdy ass coworkers and didn’t think many people would participate.u201d
u201cWhat really appeals to me about Sonic is his color scheme, so I accidentally made him purple.u201d
u201cWhat if the key to making Sonic cuter was to make him more realistic?u201d we ask, using science as our guide.
Simone de Rochefort
u201cI started with the eyes, then the brow, the spikes, and the nose. My issues started when I placed Sonic’s mouth. I put a little mouth right underneath his nose. Now, I know Sonic has a big head. I started drawing Sonic’s famous, big, round head, and when I tried to enclose the mouth in the head, I realized I had made a terrible mistake. I tried to extend the mouth, but that didn’t help.
u201cSome say that drawing Sonic is more about capturing his spirit than replicating his original appearance; I give myself and this drawing two thumbs up.u201d
Who is Sonic EXE?
Sonic. EXE is an eldritch entity that takes the form of Sonic the Hedgehog and sends out a haunted game disc in which the creature kills the main Sonic characters before ripping out their souls and making them his slave.
How old is Sonic?
30 years old
Is Sonic real?
Sonic’s real name is revealed to be Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog in the Archie comics, which he tries desperately to keep hidden, possibly out of embarrassment; however, this name is not canon (official) in the game continuity, and he is simply known as Sonic the Hedgehog in the games.
