How To Draw Cartoon Animals Using Nice Circles
All cartoon animals have large eyes and pupils, and the mouth is drawn with a large curved line, which is the most basic technique available! Some characters, such as the bat, may be more difficult to depict; for example, the bat’s wings are made of pointed oval shapes.
How these animals are built …
Before we look at some examples, let’s learn a little bit more about these cute cartoon animals using a cute pig illustration. All characters in this series are drawn using a specific recipe that I’ll try to explain below… 1. Large circular eyes in the middle of the head All animals in this collection are drawn with big beautiful eyes made from perfect circles.
A simple video lesson to learn differently!
This cute cartoon penguin is available as a video tutorial; it’s a great way to see how these cute cartoon animals are drawn. You can also find more characters and animals on my Youtube channel (from various sections of my site).
a cute cartoon puppy to play with!
We can draw cartoon animals using complex lines or create fun characters just by assembling a few basic shapes. Let’s go for the latter! The head is made up of a large oval shape and the body is made up of a tiny rectangle. Eyes, pupils, the nose, and even the ears are mostly made up of circles and oval shapes.
trying another posture using a fun turtle
Let’s work with a turtle drawn in a different position for this example on how to draw cartoon animals. As you can see in the first step, the head is lower than the body (not by much, but still). Eyes are round and made of huge circles. All four legs are easy to read on both sides of the animal.
A sea animal for a different approach
This time, why not try drawing a simple crab using only circles and triangles? This is a good example of how you can draw cartoon animals that are easy to read (and recognize) using only a few basic shapes. Although the creature isn’t filled with details and textures, it definitely has a strong personality.
Only circles are needed to create a wonderful caterpillar
You won’t need any triangles, squares, or rectangles to represent a simple insect like a caterpillar; all you’ll need are a few lines to form the mouth, create the legs, and sketch the antennas. A slight perspective can even be achieved by playing with the orientation of the body.
time to work with an animal standing on its four legs
So far, we’ve tried a sitting dog, a turtle crawling on its chest, a crab with six legs, and a caterpillar capable of wearing hundreds of shoes; now let’s try a standard animal walking on four legs. This horse is slightly more challenging because the shape of the body is pretty irregular. As you can see below, the size of the head is almost the same as the size of the body.
how to turn a terrifying shark into an adorable character
This cartoon shark has all the features you’re looking for… sharp teeth, a menacing fin, and a strong body are all elements that should be scary or at least visually intimidating.
drawing a duck: the importance of creating a perfect beak
Some animals, such as the shark, are relatively easy to recognize because they have so many distinct features to sketch that even if you miss a couple of them, you can still end up with a realistic character (by the way, did you notice the gills inside our friendly shark above?). Other animals, however, are more difficult to draw because if you miss one body part, you’re done! This is the case with the duck.
Spikes all over the place … that’s a hedgehog!
We can draw cartoon animals using rectangles, squares, and circles… but triangles? Well, we’re not talking about perfect triangles here, but rather curved lines that are assembled like triangles! That’s the beauty of working with this adorable hedgehog: not only is it a simple animal to draw, but you also get the chance to try out different shapes that aren’t found in most characters in this series.
