How to Draw Grapes Step by Step
This tutorial will show you how to draw grapes in a grape bunch in six easy steps, with detailed step-by-step drawings and instructions. The tutorial will take you from a simple line drawing to applying color and shading to make the grapes look nicer.
Step 1 – Draw the Top Grapes
Draw the top and bottom of the grape bunch, starting with the grapes that are out in front and working backwards, leaving enough space at the bottom for the entire bunch of grapes and enough space at the top for the part that connects them to the vine.
Step 2 – Draw the Middle Grapes
Draw the next set of grapes below the previous one, but this time with the grapes pointing downwards instead of upwards as in the previous drawing.
Step 3 – Draw the “Outer” Grapes
The grapes on the sides should be mostly hidden behind the other grapes due to the curvature of the grape bunch and their position in relation to the other sets of grapes, so add another set of grapes around the top and near the bottom of the bunch.
Step 6 – Color the Grape Bunch
Drawing grapes with colored pencils or paints is a simple task; add some basic shading and highlights to make the grapes more interesting; to show that the right side is facing away from the light, shade the grapes on the very right/bottom slightly darker.
When combined with good, clean line drawing, basic lighting and shading can really make a picture stand out a lot more than if it’s just filled in with one solid color. Click through the gallery to see how to add some basic lighting and shading to your own pictures.
