FAQ: How To Draw A Horse Professional?

How to Draw a Horse Step by Step

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to draw a realistic horse from scratch, step by step, including how to build its body out of simple shapes, add all the details, and, most importantly, how to achieve the proper proportions for a horse’s body.

Step 1

This is supposed to be a sketch, not an exact copy of the final picture, so sketch it lightly without pressing too hard.

Step 2

This will be the’shoulder area,’ which is the middle of his lower body.

Step 3

Draw a line behind the chest to define the “waist,” or the space between the chest and the hips.

Step 8

After you’ve completed the main body, draw another curve for the neck, slightly shorter than the back curve.

Step 9

Connect the nose to the body in a straight line, not an angle or curve, and leave some room for your ears right at the tip.

Step 10

Make it about the length of the neck and the width of the shoulder blade.

Step 1

1. First, we must determine the safe ground distance for the horse to walk on.

Step 6

1. Attach a circle to each hoof, and 2. Make sure the hooves are always facing the same way.

Step 9

To give the calves more personality, add more details to their shape.

Step 2

To emphasize the shape of the lips, draw a line from the top of the nose to the tip of the tongue, as well as a line between the ears.

Step 4

In the lower area, draw a large circle.

Step 6

On top of the muzzle, draw the nose.

Step 7

In the lower part of the muzzle, draw the mouth.

Step 9

Draw an oval between the mouth and the cheek to represent some interesting muscles.

Step 10

More “muscles” between the nose and the eye should be drawn.

Step 11

A bony protrusion protrudes from the cheek, which is an important feature of a horse’s head.

Step 1

Draw some small ovals to represent the elbows and knees.

Step 2

The forearm “cuts” into the arm/shoulder area, and the top of the thigh has a gentle curve.

Step 3

To make both limbs appear muscular, we’ll need to add special muscle outlines, starting with the larger elements… and gradually adding more detail.

Step 4

There are also unique details on the torso.

Step 6

The neck has a lot of complicated muscles, but they can be broken down into the following categories:

Step 7

Finally, add the tail, which isn’t nearly as long as you might think!

Step 1

With a slanting line, cut the lower part of the hooves.

Step 2

To make the hooves more accurate, cut the backs of them.

Step 4

Curves, deeper in the back and gentler in the front, connect the hooves to the joint.

Step 5

Because the lower parts of the legs are bony and lack muscles, they should have a very distinct shape.

Step 6

Muscles should be added to the forearm area.

Step 9

Make a small hollow beneath the Achilles tendon.

Step 10

Make the lower legs more detailed.

Step 1

The sketch is complete, and we can now draw the final drawing. If you drew lightly enough, you should be able to draw the final lines over it; if not, you can either draw the final lines with a thicker, darker tool or cover the sketch with a new sheet of paper. Let’s start with the hair, in case it obscures some details.

Step 2

The mane and tail should be shaped like rough strands rather than single hairs.

Step 3

Finish the hair with the technique described here: PortraitMonika Zagrobelna’s Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing Hair

Step 4

Outline the details of the head; you don’t have to outline every “muscle”u2014just enough to give the impression that something is there.

Step 5

Outline the entire body, keeping the muscle outline “open”u2014muscles aren’t separate objects; they’re covered by skin!

Step 6

Make some of the lines darker and “color” the dark areas to finish the drawing.
