How to Draw an Ear | 04 |Placing the Ear on the Head
Here’s a look at the final image you’ll be learning how to draw in this lesson: Draw the face silhouette and then divide it in half vertically between the top of the head and the chin to create the eye line.
Placing the Ears from the Front View
In this example image, we’ve drawn in ovals at the points of the nose and eye line to represent the natural curve of the face, and the ears are placed so that they touch the top of the ear and attach to the head at the top.
Placing the Ears from the Side View
Draw the face silhouette from the side view. Divide the skull in half vertically, as in the previous example. Create the nose line by taking half of the distance between the eye and chin lines. Draw the ear between the lines of the eye and nose.
Using the Ear Drawing as a Guide for Other Parts of the Face
The sternocleidomastoid muscle, which attaches just behind the ear, travels along the neck, and attaches to the collar bone, is easily located by placing the ear first. This is the final lesson in this series on how to draw a realistic ear.
How do you shade a face?
To create a shadow, shade up into the outline of two small ovals for the nostrils, then start shading a slightly lighter shade as you move toward the center of the nose from the left side.
