I want to draw straight lines but can’t figure how to give them a stroke
A line in Inkscape doesn’t really have a fill vs stroke concept; changing the stroke color changes the entire line because it’s all stroke. You can change the stroke and fill colors using the Fill and Strokes tool.
How do I draw a colored line in Inkscape?
Inkscape allows you to draw lines and curves.
- You’ll only need to use a few tools from the Tool Box Bar:
- Use the Fill and Stroke Box to set line (Stroke) color and turn off the Fill.
- Now you can move nodes (little squares) if necessary.
How do you draw a path in Inkscape?

What is a path in Inkscape?
A path is a collection of straight line segments and/or Bezier curves that, like any other Inkscape object, can have arbitrary fill and stroke properties; however, unlike a shape, a path can be edited by dragging any of its nodes (not just predefined handles) or directly dragging a path segment.
How do I change the angle of a line in Inkscape?

How do I draw a perpendicular line in Inkscape?
Another option is to use the Object menu > Transform > Rotate option.
- Identify the angle of the first line.
- Calculate the needed angle for the second line.
- Draw a horizontal or vertical line.
- Rotate it to the proper angle using Object menu > Transform > Rotate.
- Connect it to the first line using node editing and the Node tool.
Why is difference not working in Inkscape?
Because the stroke applied to the black shape is so thick that it obscures the inside of the gap you cut, you won’t be able to see it. Simply remove the stroke or make it much thinner, and you’ll see that it worked.
